Manchester United face a growing injury concern ahead of their Champions League clash with Como, with up to ten senior players potentially unavailable for the trip to Italy.
United trained on Tuesday morning at Carrington, but Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez were among several high-profile absentees. Their absence raises fears that neither will be named in the travelling squad.
Historic night on Lake Como
United will visit Cesc Fabregas’ side on Wednesday evening, aiming to bounce back from their defeat to Atletico Madrid on matchday two of this season’s league phase.
The match will be played at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia with UEFA’s approval. It is also a historic occasion, as United have never faced Como in a competitive fixture.
Carrick’s selection dilemma
Head coach Michael Carrick may now face a selection headache. Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven, Martinez and Rashford all missed Tuesday’s session.
Mainoo, Shaw and Heaven sat out the 1-1 draw with Leeds at the weekend. Martinez was replaced at half-time in that game after picking up a thigh injury.
Rashford was an unused substitute at Elland Road. Carrick confirmed the England international has been carrying a knock recently.
“Marcus has been carrying a little bit of something so we’re managing him to a point,” the United head coach said.
Long-term absentees and a suspension
As expected, long-term absentees Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu and Manuel Ugarte did not train. Third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton was also missing.
Defender Leny Yoro is certain to miss the Como game. He is suspended after being sent off in the Spanish capital.
